“THE ELDER STORY”

“There he is” exclaimed one of the tribesmen. “Over there, to the left of that old mulga stump”. All eyes turned and strained to see.
I quickly turned to look and through the shimmering heat haze, I could see him. A faint, ghost like figure moving slowly toward our camp. At this distance the figure seemed to float within the silvery mirage of the boiling hot desert plains. Then he was gone.
Suddenly, there he was again, stepping forward from the tall spinifex grass just a short distance from our camp.
I could see him clearly now, ‘He was magnificent.’ His charcoal coloured skin seemed to shine like black chrome and his steely stare held every one in it’s gaze. His naked, tawny body was lean and of modest stature, but I could feel his great aura all about us.
I could hardly breath from excitement, so much I had heard about this man and now he was only metres away from me.
This tribal elder, a King to these people, was a great healer and medicine man, a shaman who was legendary amongst these desert tribes. He possesses great wisdom from the Dreamtime and some say that he was probably conceived there. I could feel that I was in the presence of a truly great man. I almost felt weak, but I was so very humbled by his presence.
